Everyday Adventure: SF House (window) Shopping.

We have spent a good proportion of our time here so far just wandering around. We want to get a feel for all the different neighbourhoods in order to help us pick a place to live. While budget (and availability) will be the only real deciding factor(s) things like the feel of the place, transport options and whether or not there’s a Trader Joes nearby help too. [Disclaimer: There is always a Trader Joes nearby and if Richard could live in one, I think he probably would. I’ve never before seen a man so in love with a supermarket.] The houses here could not be more different to the houses at home. Nothing is straight or uniform or boring. Here are some pretty homes that have caught my eye over the last week and a half.

These two dogs were just hanging their heads out the window of their Mission home, watching the world go by. They made me think of Lily, we are missing her a lot.

So that pink house on the right is technically in Berkeley (where houses tend to have front and back gardens, driveways and wheelie bins) but it has a lace-like white trim on it so I couldn’t resist taking a photo. It’s like Barbie’s dreamhouse or something…we don’t get homes like this at home.

So far our top neighbourhood is North Beach, it’s busy and friendly and has lots of nice restaurants, shops and cafés and is within walking distance of most things. We also liked Mission around Dolores Park and Nob Hill…but like I said it’s all going to depend on salaries and what’s out there. I’ll be sure to keep you updated.
